i think its sad that club owners dont make decisions for the long-term. if his track record has any relevance, big sam was brought in the change the culture at newcastle – to bring a working, in the trenches mentality to a club that strived to play that way but was rarely successful.
ashley buys a club that’s historically played stuck-in football and wants to snap his fingers and real madrid or barca. its not going to happen! you’re not going to make that happen by buying mark viduka and joey barton!
but in the end, he owns the club and can do what he wants. im sure the newcastle fans would like to see a few more goals, a few more obafemi martins backflips, some ‘sexy’ football (or do they? do they want the glamour?). that being the case, who is the best man for the job?
(dont say mourinho. and sorry for the long lead up).
Mike Ashley’s habit of sitting in the stands during matches was meant to mean that he’s in touch with the fans , but i dont think its a good idea to be so in touch. When our team does crap, we complain and whinge about it…thats what fans do and we’re entitled to it. But the owners and directors are meant to look at things in the longer terms, and be more detached than the fans. It seems to me that he’s trying to do whatever to takes to be a friend of the fans…even considering alan shearer ,who has no experience in a management/coaching position.
